A bigger shock than the NHL canceling the Winter Classic may have been what followed.
The league and the NHLPA both agreed to resume talks. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and union executive Steve Fehr were scheduled to meet in person Saturday. A location was not disclosed.
A report from TSN's Darren Dreger said that the NHL is making a "significant concession" to the union on the "make whole" concept.
Both sides have not met since October 18, when the NHL rejected the union's three counteroffers.
The move by the NHL might be showing desperation to get a season of any kind in. Even with no Winter Classic, the league sounds like they just want games to be played.
