Should the NHL and NHLPA agree to end the lockout and start the season, the Detroit Red Wings will be without one of their top forwards.
Valtteri Filppula suffered a sprained knee Tuesday while playing for Finnish team Jokerit, per Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Filppula has been in Finland since the NHL lockout began September 16.
If the NHL season were to start in December, Filppula would be out until at least after Christmas.
