The Grand Rapids Griffins extended their winning streak to six games with a 6-5 overtime win over the Lake Erie Monsters Friday night.
The Monsters would jump out to an early lead with a goal from David van der Gulik at 10:11 in the first period. They would add to the lead in the second with a goal from Andrew Agozzino at 4:02, and Mitchell Heard at 10:29.
The Griffins would answer at 11:32 with Max Nicastro scoring his first career goal. Triston Grant added another at 13:10 to cut the deficit to one.
Van der Gulik would score his second of the game at 14:03 off of a faceoff to give the Monsters a 4-2 lead.
Gustav Nyquist answered at 15:59 by beating Monsters netminder Calvin Pickard on a rebound to make the score 4-3. Nyquist's goal was the sixth of the second period alone.
The Monsters tied the game at 18:51 with a goal from Bryan Lerg. Lerg's goal would send the game to overtime.
Nyquist would score the game winner on a power play at 2:30 of overtime for his second of the game.
Petr Mrazek made 29 saves for his fifth consecutive win. Mrazek's 5-0 start tied a franchise record for best start by a goaltender.
The Griffins will be back in action on Black Friday for the start of another three games in three nights set. The first game will be Friday at home against the Chicago Wolves at 7:30 PM.
