The Grand Rapids Griffins are a team with a lot of offensive firepower, but they ran out of ammunition Friday night in a 3-1 loss to the Texas Stars.
The Griffins were held to fewer than two goals for the first time all season, and only mustered 23 shots on goal.
Landon Ferraro opened the scoring 17:18 of the first period after firing a shot past Texas netminder Christopher Nilstorp.
It would be all Texas in the third period as the Stars would get goals from Jordie Benn at 3:29 on a power play, and Alex Chiasson scoring on a redirection 43 seconds later.
The Griffins were unable to add another despite pulling McCollum and being on the power play for the last three minutes.
McCollum finished with 29 saves.
The two teams will meet again tonight in Grand Rapids.
NOTES: The Griffins concluded November with an 8-3 record, and maintained a one point lead in the Midwest Division…Griffins' forward Max Nicastro was reassigned to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL Wednesday.Tags: Brendan Smith, Detroit, Detroit Red Wings, Grand Rapids Griffins, Hockey, Landon Ferraro, Max Nicastro, NHL, Tom McCollum
