The NHL has canceled all games through January 14, 2013.
The following Detroit Red Wings games were among the cancelations:
- January 4 vs. Nashville
- January 6 at Chicago
- January 9 at San Jose
- January 12 at Los Angeles
- January 13 at Anaheim
This now brings the season total to 625 games canceled due to the lockout. The announcement comes right on the heels of Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly telling CBC's Elliotte Friedman that there will be a hockey season on Hockey Night in Canada Radio Wednesday. Daly also said that no talks have been scheduled between the NHL and NHLPA, and that mid-January is the "drop dead" date for no season.
With January 15 now the set date for the start of the season, expect this to be the last batch of games canceled. The next announcement of cancelations will likely be the remainder of the season.
BABCOCK SPEAKS: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock told Sportsnet's Mark Spector that the NHL could wind up like bowling in terms of fan viewership.
Red Wings GM Ken Holland did not comment.
