Detroit Red Wings prospect Xavier Ouellet scored the first goal for Team Canada in their 9-3 win over Germany Wednesday in the IIHF World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia.
Ouellet, a defenseman, scored his goal on a power play.
Fellow prospect Jake Paterson, a goaltender, did not play. Malcolm Subban got the start in net and stopped 25 of 28 shots.
Canada will play Slovakia Friday at 4:30 AM Eastern Time.
