Call it the worst kept secret in Hockeytown.

The Detroit Red Wings will name forward Henrik Zetterberg the team's next captain, Ansar Khan of MLive writes.

This comes as no surprise to Red Wings fans, as many expected the Swede to don the "C" on his jersey from the moment Nick Lidstrom retired in May.

Zetterberg has been an alternate captain since the 2006-07 season, the season after Steve Yzerman retired and Lidstrom was named captain. Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Kronwall will continue to serve as alternates this season.

In other news, The Macomb Daily's Chuck Pleiness reports that forward Tomas Holmstrom will announce his retirement at the start of the season.

Holmstrom has spent his entire 15 year career with the Red Wings, making a living parking his rear end in front of opposing goaltenders on the power play.
