Pavel Datsyuk joined the Detroit Red Wings on the ice today at training camp. It was the first time Datsyuk had skated with the team since the lockout began.
"I'm sorry I'm a little bit late," he said.
Datsyuk had been in Russia playing in the KHL during the lockout. He returned to Detroit Monday afternoon.
He was on a line at today's practice with Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner. Today was a simulated game day morning skate in preparation for tonight's Red-White scrimmage.
Datsyuk will not play in tonight's scrimmage so he can get back to being on Detroit time, per head coach Mike Babcok.
"It's just good to have him here," Babcock said. "He was going to play in the All-Star Game and did. We'll give him a day off today and a day off tomorrow, and then he should be back on, body clockwise, and ready to go."
Tonight's Red-White scrimmage will be at Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Michigan at 6 pm. Doors will open at 5. Admission to the event is free. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit, with Ken Daniels handling the play-by-play and Mickey Redmond as the color analyst.
INJURY UPDATE: Darren Helm will likely miss the rest of camp, and possibly the season opener with a back injury. Mikael Samuelsson remains out with a groin injury, but an ultrasound revealed no damage.Tags: Detroit, Detroit Red Wings, Hockey, NHL
