Season series: The Stars lead the season series 1-0
Last meeting: Michael Ryder scored two goals, and Kari Lehtonen stopped 39 of 40 shots as the Stars pulled out a 2-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena. Damien Brunner scored the lone goal for the Red Wings.
Red Wings update: The Wings are coming off of a 2-1 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday night. This is a team that could be 4-1-0 now after two losses by only one goal. Pavel Datsyuk leads the Wings in scoring with six points (2 goals, 4 assists) through the first five games. Henrik Zetterberg is on a four game point streak (1 goal, 4 assists) with five points. Brunner has scored a point in his last three games, and Niklas Kronwall has four assists in the last four games. The Wings will be without Darren Helm (back) and Mikael Samuelsson (groin) tonight. Jakub Kindl will be in on defense, meaning Brian Lashoff will get the night off. Jimmy Howard (2-2-1, 3.13 GAA, .897 save percentage) will get the start between the pipes. Howard has improved his numbers since a rough season opener.
Stars update: The Stars are coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets last night. The loss marks the fourth straight for the Stars. Ray Whitney leads the team in scoring with five points (2 goals, 3 assists). Ryder leads the team with three goals scored on the year. The Stars offense has not been very strong, but they could get a boost from the return of Jamie Benn, who resolved a contract dispute with the team Friday. Benn played last night in Columbus, and recorded an assist. The Stars will be without Derek Roy (groin) tonight. Lehtonen (2-1-1, 2.13 GAA, .940 save percentage) will start in net for the second consecutive night.
Prediction: The Stars are reeling right now. While the return of Benn will help, they are still struggling to score goals. A day of rest will be the difference in this one as the Red Wings avenge a loss last week to the same Stars team.
Make it: Red Wings 3, Stars 1
Season Prediction Record: 3-2-0
