The biggest story of the Detroit Red Wings' season has been that of injured players.
Winger Mikael Samuelsson will now miss two weeks with a broken finger. The injury occurred during a morning skate Tuesday after Samuelsson was hit with a slapshot from Ian White.
Starting goaltender Jimmy Howard, who Tuesday's game against the Nashville Predators in the first with "blurry vision," per Red Wings GM Ken Holland.
"I didn't know about that," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said to the Detroit Free Press. "He wasn't seeing good or something like that."
"He'll get tested tomorrow, we'll find out more."
No word on how long Howard will be out for. As of 4:15 PM EDT, the team had not recalled Petr Mrazek from Grand Rapids.
The good news is that winger Johan Franzen is expected to return Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Franzen had missed the last four games with a hip flexor.
Defenseman Brendan Smith, out since injuring his shoulder February 2, will return in time for a road trip to California. Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder) is also close to a return.
